Have you ever wondered what programming languages were the most popular and desirable in 2022? There are over 200 different programming languages, but only a few of them are at the forefront of the most used in the development industry.
Based on data from DevJobsScanner for the period from October 2021 to November 2022, after analyzing about 12 million job offers for developers, the TOP most frequently required programming languages have been determined. The list was created based on a study whose aim was to categorize job offers according to the following criteria: programming language, minimizing errors and finding relevant information in the offers.
The second most desired programming language in 2022, according to DevJobsScanner, was Python. Its versatility, from scripting to running servers to data analytics, ensured its second place.
The last place on the podium as the most searched programming language in 2022 is held by Java. Java has been very popular since its beginning in 1995. Despite its declining popularity in recent years, with the emergence of new languages such as Kotlin, it still holds a solid place in the top three. Frameworks such as Spring, used in many companies, contribute to the relatively high position of Java.
C# hits the 4th place. C# is a multi-paradigm, general-purpose object-oriented programming language, mainly designed to address some of the weaknesses of the C++ language. As a C# language, it has a wide range of applications. The most common use of C# is in .NET. It is also heavily used in Unity for scripting.
The language that originated twenty-seven years ago as the "Personal Home Page Tool", i.e. PHP, has become the fifth most sought-after programming language in 2022. The job offers for IT engineers that appeared on the market in 2022 show that in 1 of 10 offers knowledge of PHP was required.
PHP is mainly used for web development, combined with frameworks like Laravel or Wordpress.
